It’s Taking All You Have Just to Survive

You wake up already tense… already braced… already tired of managing what your body and mind won’t let go of.

Memories intrude without warning.

Your nervous system reacts before you can think.

You’re constantly scanning for danger, even when nothing is wrong.

No matter what you do or where you go… the past keeps showing up.

It Seems Like There’s No Escape

You avoid places, people, conversations – anything that might trigger the reaction you can’t control.

  • But that’s no way to live.

You’ve talked about it… tried to understand it… tried to reason your way through it.

  • But none of it gives you relief.

The memories still carry charge, which is why your system reacts as if the danger is still present.

EMDR Works Where Other Approaches Don’t

Trauma isn’t stored as a narrative – it’s stored as unprocessed neural and nervous system activation. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) works directly with that level of the brain.

Through bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements or alternating tactile input), EMDR activates both hemispheres of the brain while a memory is briefly accessed. This stimulation engages the brain’s natural information-processing system, allowing previously “stuck” survival responses to complete and reorganize.

The nervous system updates the memory from current threat to past event, releasing the physiological charge that keeps triggering reactions.

The memory remains, but the nervous system no longer treats it as a threat.

That’s When You’ll Experience Relief

Trauma hijacked your nervous system.

EMDR sets it free:

  •   Your body stops reacting to the present as if the past is still happening.
  •   Emotional triggers lose their intensity and stop running the show.
  •   Memories remain, but they no longer come with panic, shutdown, or overwhelm.
  •   You feel settled inside yourself instead of constantly bracing for impact.
  •   Energy once spent on survival becomes available for connection, focus, and joy.

What is EMDR therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured therapy that helps the brain process unprocessed traumatic memories. Using bilateral stimulation (like eye movements), EMDR reduces the emotional intensity of these memories. EMDR is research-backed and effective for trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, OCD, and other distressing experiences.
How is EMDR different from other therapies?
EMDR doesn’t require talking through every detail or homework. Instead, it helps the brain naturally reprocess trauma, targeting the root of unprocessed memories. Many clients experience lasting results in fewer sessions than traditional talk therapy.
How does EMDR affect the brain?
EMDR helps the brain complete its natural healing process. It reduces the fight, flight, or freeze response tied to past trauma, so memories are recalled without overwhelming fear. Stressful events are still remembered, but they no longer control emotions or reactions.
Who can benefit from EMDR?
Children and adults of all ages can benefit. EMDR addresses trauma, PTSD, anxiety, panic, phobias, depression, grief, chronic illness, pain, dissociation, eating disorders, sleep issues, abuse, and other life challenges.
Can EMDR be done without a trained therapist?
No. EMDR is a specialized therapy that should only be delivered by licensed, trained mental health professionals. DIY EMDR is not safe or effective.
How did EMDR therapy start?
In the late 1980s, Francine Shapiro discovered that eye movements reduced the intensity of upsetting memories. She developed EMDR into a structured, research-supported therapy now recognized globally for treating trauma and related mental health challenges.

EMDR Helps You Heal in Three Steps

We build safety, grounding, and nervous system regulation so your body has the capacity to process the past without getting overwhelmed.

Using bilateral stimulation, we target specific memories and body responses so the brain can complete what it couldn’t at the time.

As reactivity decreases, we reinforce new patterns – helping you live in the present instead of reacting from the past.

What Others Are Saying

“Susan Brenner has been instrumental in my healing journey, providing insightful guidance and unwavering support. I highly recommend her for anyone seeking a compassionate and effective therapist.” (RD)

“I have been with Susan Brenner for almost 7 years. EMDR is a powerful tool used in my therapy. I have been able to free myself of years of hurt with her. She is laid back and so knowledgeable.” (NS)

“I have worked with Susan for about two years now and have seen great progress in myself! I initially sought help for dealing with a traumatic event that had occurred in my past. Susan took the time to make me comfortable with her and also with the process of EMDR before starting the actual process, which helped tremendously with my anxiety. Susan will not only support your goals but will give you the tools and advice necessary to implement what you are working on in sessions into your real-life situations!” (CG)

Because we’re working at the level of your nervous system, you won’t have to talk in detail about what happened to get the relief you deserve.

“Phenomenal therapist. She has helped so many of my patients struggling with anxiety and depression. Her expertise with EMDR has been far more effective than any other treatment my patients have experienced in the past. Truly an amazing provider.” (GK)

“Working with Susan has changed my life. She introduced me to mindfulness and many coping mechanisms. I suffered from physical symptoms of my anxiety and trauma, which I have been able to work through with her and grow. She is patient, kind, relatable, and very warm in a way that welcomes me to be vulnerable with her.” (AF)

“I feel so lucky to have found Susan when I did. Her ability to keep me calm, guide me to peace, and consistently remind me of my strength has been critical to my trauma healing. Without her and her EMDR practice, I’d be stuck in traumatic spirals and fear. Her therapy is invaluable, and I will forever be grateful for her.” (KA)
